Many thanks Kid. I remember the first time I saw that particular photo of Barnabas - it was in a Dark Shadows feature in 'Famous Monsters of Filmland' magazine. A full-page photo, no less. Good ol' Forrest J. Ackerman - the magazine world needs more publishers like him.
TRUE STORY - a couple of weeks ago, my kid had one of his high-school friends over. In my dining room I have a large framed copy of an oil painting of Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins hanging on the wall. It's based on the portrait in the foyer of Collinwood.
Anyway, my son's friend looks at it and asks, "Is that a painting of your dad?"
After 40 years, finally, finally - someone else has realized what I alone have known for all these years.

Dark Shadows was my mother's ingenius way of getting me to watch a soap opera when I was a kid, and boy did I watch it!
Too bad the rest of the genre blew chunks... and had absolutely no vampires or werewolves!
My mother got me watching it as well. And look how we turned out!
