The End

After a lifetime of collecting monthly comics, I have decided that it's time to quit.

From now on, I will only buy trades.

This is going to take some willpower. But the simple fact is that a)I'm running out of room to store them and b)Cheryl told me it was time. So I can't argue. Financially, you do save money buying trades, and they are so much easier to store. I've noticed that Marvel has trades out within a month of a storyline ending, and even DC is starting to release on a somewhat better schedule.

Still, I'll miss going into the comics store each week. It will be nice to have money in my wallet, though.

That's a big step, KD! Some of my hardcore-collector friends have pondered these same weighty questions for the very reasons you suggest: expense, storage space, etc.

Me - when I *do* buy - I prefer the trades. It just works for the way I'm wired: short attention span, impatience, etc. I like that I can have big, tasty meal of a complete story arc.

You make a telling point, however, in that there is a social aspect that cannot be ignored. I get a couple of monthly and quarterly magazines, but I still love to pursue the racks when I'm near one.

I say we start a pool to see how long till you break down and buy one.

Or has that already happened?

If I break down, Sonny, Ninja Wife will *break* me. It's funny to see a wife finally say enough to one aspect of an overextended adolescence. There's a certain ineffable finality of light that comes into their eyes.

Clearly the saddest thing I've read all week.

What? No, no, not that you're giving up the monthly pamphlets... but the fact that you're being bossed around by the little woman! I mean, really, grow a backbone already, would--

What's that, Vicki? I'm spending too much time on my computer right now? There's laundry needing doing and you'd like your feet rubbed? Of course, dear, I'll be right there, and may I just say how lovely you're looking today.....
